What You Need to Know About Laser Treatments

Laser technology is changing the world. Lasers can be used to treat veins, stretch marks, and scarring. They are also used for hair removal and tattoo removal. Are you interested in any of our laser treatments? Here is everything you need to know.

The skin is the largest organ in our bodies. As we age, the effects of the sun, wind, time, and hormones begin to show. Fine lines appear around our eyes and lips. The collagen beneath our skin wears out, deeper wrinkles begin to appear. Surface irregularities such as pigment discolorations and acne scarring may also occur. That is where the Erbium laser comes in.

The Erbium laser is the perfect treatment for aging and sun damaged skin. The Erbium laser provides a safer, more accurate and less painful method of restoring softer, smoother, more youthful-appearing skin. Erbium laser skin resurfacing is a procedure specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face. The Erbium laser produces less heating or burning of surrounding tissues that other lasers used for resurfacing. This allows for gentle and comfortable vaporization of the damaged skin cells. The Erbium laser stimulates the production of collagen, creating a tightening and smoothing of the skin.

There are many benefits of Erbium laser skin resurfacing. The Erbium laser is safe and reliable. Resurfacing with this laser produces fewer unwanted side-effects and complications. Treatment with the Erbium laser produces minimal heating and burning of surrounding tissue. Healing is rapid because the laser causes minimal redness, swelling, and bruising. Erbium lasers can be used on the on the neck, chest, and hands. It can treat a variety of skin conditions including the removal of stretch marks, age spots, freckles.

Skin resurfacing with the cool light of the Erbium laser results in less post-operative redness, less swelling, and provides a more rapid healing than with other skin resurfacing methods. In most cases, patients are fully recovered and go back to normal activities within 3-10 days depending on the area treat and the energy used. Following the procedure, the treated areas are kept moist with ointment for the first few days. Sunblock should be applied on the area treated when in the sun. Make up can be worn after the first week. Over the next few weeks, the redness will fade to a normal tone revealing a softer, smoother, younger look. Patients love their results, and you will not only look younger, but you will also feel younger too.

Lasers can be used to treat facial veins and spider veins. Unsightly spider veins and red blotches on the face affect millions of people. Many patients would love to be rid of these unattractive and sometimes embarrassing distractions. Advanced laser technologies enable us to treat these facial spider veins safely, easily, and effectively. The laser technology delivers precise dosages of energy to each vein, with a minimal risk to the skin. During these treatments, energy is delivered through a special handpiece to the targeted vein. The energy is then absorbed by the blood vessels. The heat and energy absorption causes clogging of the blood vessel. The clogged vessel is then slowly absorbed by the body. Dr. Kurzman will first identify which veins will be treated. Laser energy is then delivered along the length of the vessel, larger veins will be targeted first. The laser energy causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessels, which are then absorbed by your body. Most laser therapy patients report little discomfort.

Typically, multiple treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results. Tiny pink and red vessels usually require two to three treatments to achieve acceptable results. Veins that are darker or purplish are usually more difficult to remove and require more treatments. Depending on the number of vessels treated and their location, treatments usually take several minutes. Optimal results can be maintained only if you apply sunscreen on the treated area and avoid sun exposure. Over time it is possible for new veins to grow in, but these too can be erased. After treatment with lasers some swelling, redness and on rare occasions some minor blistering may occur. Following treatment with lasers, some bruising may appear around the treated areas. Following any treatment, your skin may feel tender for several days. You should follow the Dr. Kurzman’s instructions, avoid any harsh skin cleansers, and use sunscreen.
